We've been on the other side of bad contract negotiations. We built Clause Room so other founders don't have to learn the hard way.
Our story
The problem was hiding in plain sight.
After decades practising as a Barrister and serving as General Counsel across some of the world's leading organisations, our founder had seen the same pattern play out hundreds of times.
Every new company. Every new commercial team. Every new sales hire. The same legal playbooks being built from scratch. The same clauses being debated in the same rooms by the same expensive people. The same junior negotiator picking up the phone to escalate a contract question that, with the right knowledge and a clear framework, they could have handled themselves.
The waste wasn't malicious. It was structural. Legal knowledge sat locked inside the heads of senior counsel, buried in dense templates, or gated behind hourly rates most businesses couldn't justify for every deal that crossed their desk.
Meanwhile, the people closest to the commercial relationship - the sales lead, the founder, the ops director - were expected to either sign what was put in front of them or hand it upstairs. Neither option served them well.
That frustration became a question: what if the playbook didn't have to live in a lawyer's head?
Clause Room was built to answer it.
We believe that understanding a contract shouldn't require a law degree. That knowing when to push back, when to accept, and when to escalate shouldn't depend on who you happen to have access to. That the intelligence built up over decades of negotiation experience can, and should, be made available to the people who need it most, at the moment they need it.
Because the best deal isn't the one your lawyer negotiated for you. It's the one you understood well enough to negotiate yourself.
